How to log and review bowel movements in Gut Elements
A practical guide to the current Android tracker: save a stool type and time, edit entries, review calendar history and understand summary limits.
In short: in Gut Elements, tap Log bowel movement, pick the stool type, check the time and save. Find earlier entries in History (calendar or list), where you can edit or delete them, and see 7-, 30- and 90-day summaries in Insights. Your logs stay on your phone, and there is no export or backup yet.
Gut Elements focuses on one job: keeping your bowel movement records together. The instructions below describe the implemented Android app, checked against the app source on October 12, 2026. They are not clinical advice. Check release availability before looking for an installation link.
Save an entry
- From Today, choose Log bowel movement.
- Select the stool type that best matches what you observed.
- Check the date and time. For a bowel movement that occurred earlier, change them before saving.
- Choose Save. Your saved entry appears in the history.
You do not need an account. The app has no daily streak and does not ask for an entry if no bowel movement occurred.
Find earlier records
Open History and use the calendar or list view. Select a date to see entries for that day. The list puts newer records first.
You can change the stool type and time of an existing entry, or delete it after confirmation. Deletion has no undo function in the current version. Settings also offers a delete-all action with confirmation.
Understand the summaries
Insights offers seven-, thirty- and ninety-day views. It summarises the recorded count, distribution of stool types, most common types and share of entries recorded as Types 3–4.
The per-day average uses the whole selected period. If you only just started tracking, that period includes days before your first entry. It is an average of recorded logs, not a verified measurement of how often your bowel movements actually occurred.
Know the current limits
There are no reminders, symptom fields, downloadable reports, export, cloud backup or multi-device synchronization in this version. The current tracker has no paywall; no subscription is available to buy here.
Your device holds the only copy of your logs. Uninstalling, clearing app data or losing access to the device can mean losing those records. Read the app privacy policy for the full explanation.
Report a problem safely
Use support to describe the issue, app version and Android version. Do not email bowel logs, private medical details or unredacted screenshots of your history.
