Gut Elements app privacy policy
How the Gut Elements bowel-movement tracking app for Android handles your information: your logs stay on your device and are never used for ads.
Last updated: October 18, 2026
This policy covers the Gut Elements app for Android, published by Gut Elements. The website has its own privacy policy.
Summary
- Your logs stay on your device. We do not collect, receive, store, sell, or share them, and they are never used for ads.
- The app has no account system. Anonymous usage stats are sent only if you choose to allow them.
- From version 1.1, the app is free with light ads from Google AdMob. Ads are never personalised, and a one-time purchase removes them.
- To show ads, send usage stats you've allowed and handle the purchase, the app connects to the internet. The rest of this page explains exactly what that involves.
What the app stores on your device
- Each bowel movement you log: the Bristol Stool Scale type (1–7) and the date and time.
- When each entry was created and last edited.
- App settings: whether you have completed the introduction screens, your usage-stats choice, whether you have seen the ads notice, whether you have removed ads, and when an ad was last shown.
None of this leaves your device.
What the app sends over the internet
Usage stats (Google Analytics for Firebase), only if you allow them
The app asks once whether you want to share anonymous usage stats, and you can change your answer anytime in Settings → Share anonymous usage stats. Nothing is sent unless you choose Allow.
If you allow it, Google Analytics for Firebase receives which screens you open and fixed product events, such as opening the app, finishing the introduction, starting and saving a log, editing or deleting an entry, and opening History or Insights. It also receives standard information such as an app-instance identifier, device model, OS version, app version, approximate location derived from your IP address, session lengths, and whether an ad was shown. We use this only to understand how the app is used and improve it.
Usage stats never include what you log: no stool types, no times, nothing you record. They do not use your advertising ID and are not used for ad personalisation. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Ads (Google AdMob)
Ads appear only when we have switched them on, and only after the app has shown you a notice about them. Ads never appear on the logging screen, and never in your first three days of using the app.
To show an ad, Google AdMob receives information from your device such as its advertising ID, IP address, device and app details, and how you interact with the ad. Google may use this to deliver ads, limit how often you see them, measure them and prevent fraud. AdMob never receives your logs or anything you record in the app.
We request non-personalised ads only: ads are not chosen based on your interests or profile, and we have turned off interest-based ad features in the app. We also block sensitive ad categories, including gambling, dating, alcohol, weight loss and drug-related products. Read how Google uses information from apps that use its services: Google's partner sites policy.
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form asks for your choices before ads load, and you can change them later in Settings → Ad privacy options.
Ads on/off setting
When the app opens, it downloads a small settings file from gutelements.com that says whether ads are switched on. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and basic device information to our website host, Cloudflare. It sends nothing else, and we do not use these requests to identify you.
Remove ads purchase (Google Play)
If you buy "Remove ads", Google Play handles the payment. We do not receive your card or bank details. The app receives only a confirmation from Google Play that the purchase belongs to your Google account, so ads stay off, including after reinstalling ("Restore purchase"). See the Google privacy policy.
What we never do
- We never receive, sell or share your logs.
- We never use your logs, or anything else you record, for ads.
- We do not send usage stats unless you allow them, and we do not use crash-reporting services in the app.
Backups and device transfers
The app opts out of Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so your logs are not copied to Google Drive or to a new phone. If you uninstall the app, change phones, or clear the app's data, your logs are permanently removed.
Your control
- Edit or delete any entry at any time.
- Delete all of your data in Settings → Delete all local data.
- Turn usage stats on or off in Settings → Share anonymous usage stats.
- Remove ads with a one-time purchase in Settings → Ads.
- Reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings (Settings → Google → Ads on most Android phones).
- Uninstalling the app removes all of its data.
Because we never receive your logs, we cannot access, recover, or export them for you.
